PHOENIX – A year after the COVID-19 pandemic seriously disrupted air traffic, a pushy new airline will soon take off from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, offering the Arizonans another way out of the state for a quick jaunt.
While Avelo has yet to make any official flights, one of its first flights will be from the Phoenix area and the flights will take place on May 3, just in time for summer vacation.
“Cheap fares, and now everyday you can get to LA Burbank Airport directly from the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport,” said Ryan Smith.
Flights cost $ 19, but that doesn’t include additional charges for bags and assigned seats.
“These low cost carriers are growing in popularity because you can choose what you want, because if you don’t carry a bag or check in a bag you don’t have to pay for it,” Smith said.
Smith says many airlines, including Avelo, are focusing on leisure destinations because after staying home for much of the past year, many are ready for a relaxing vacation.
“Fortunately, Phoenix is a well-known leisure destination,” Smith said. “Surprisingly, people even like to come in the summer, and these Phoenicians who want to escape the heat, they have another way of doing it.”
That’s why, says Smith, they’re excited to continue launching more locations with Avelo.
“We are really excited and hopeful for the future of this airline,” said Smith.
